Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and its affiliated Ruijin Hospital Visited Lecheng, Accelerating the Progress of International Medical Center and other Projects

In order to implement the spirit of Shanghai-Hainan cooperation agreement, promote the cooperation between Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Boao Lecheng Pilot Zone and Hainan General Hospital, and accelerate the progress of projects such as Hainan International Medical Center, Boao Research Hospital and Chinese-foreign cooperative education projects, a delegation led by Fan Xianqun, Dean of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine made a visit to Hainan for a new round of discussions and exchanges with concerned authorities from November 13th to 14th, 2021.
The delegation of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine visited Boao Lecheng Pilot Zone for field investigation to learn more about the construction progress of projects and the supporting infrastructure of the Zone and held several rounds of symposiums with Hainan Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the Education Department of Hainan Province, Health Commission of Hainan Province, Lecheng Administration and other agencies, and conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on the positioning of project target, institutional setup, construction items, scheme indicators, sources of funds, etc.
At the symposium, Gu Gang, Party Secretary and Director of Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone Administration, said that Lecheng Administration will play an active role in guaranteeing the use of construction land of the International Medical Center project and speeding up the examination and approval of the project construction. Cao Xiankun, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Education Department of Hainan Province, made further detailed arrangements on the timetable and road map for Chinese-foreign education projects as independent legal entities, and stated that the Education Department would fully support the implementation of the project. Zhou Changqiang, Party Secretary and Director of the Health Commission of Hainan Province expressed the hope that all parties could push forward the performance of various taskse ffectively and pragmatically, promote the coordinated development of “Medicine, Teaching and Research” in Lecheng Pilot Zone and serve residents inside and outside the province.

Fan Xianqun, Dean of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, said that Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine would fully cooperate to promote the Hainan International Medical Center project of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, provide HR guarantee necessary to strengthen the research function of the research hospital, and advance the integrated industry-university-research development in Lecheng Pilot Zone. Ning Guang, President of Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that Ruijin Hospital would make full use of Lecheng's special license policy, sincerely cooperate with Hainan General Hospital, and jointly operate and build Boao Research Hospital, so that international innovative drugs and medical devices could benefit Chinese people earlier and better.
After in-depth discussion and research, the participants reached an agreement on accelerating the opening and operation of Boao Research Hospital and the implementation and commencement of the International Medical Center project, and expressed that the International Medical Center project was a national strategy to serve Hainan to build a free trade port and a major project to promote the landing of Shanghai-Hainan cooperation agreement, so concerned organizations should raise their political positions, unify their thinking and understanding, and strengthen communication and coordination, and provide support for university construction, staffing, financial support, use of licensed drugs and devices, institutional innovation, etc., make joint efforts, make solid preparations, promote the project construction in an orderly manner to make new contributions to the development of the medical and health undertakings in Hainan Free Trade Port.
