The information platform for global rare disease medicines is launched in Beijing on Sept 25.

The information platform for global rare disease medicines was launched in Beijing on Sept 25, aiming to become an integrated medical service platform both online and on-site to help patients gain access to global medicines.

The platform is jointly built by AliHealth and Boao Winhealth Rare Diseases Medical Center in the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone.

A total of 22 new medicines for rare diseases were put on the platform including several medicines that haven't been approved to enter the domestic market such as glycerol phenylbutyrate, amifampridine and afamelanotide.

Users only need to submit basic information required on the platform and staff members will give feedback within seven workdays. If the medicine needed by the patient is currently unavailable in China, staff members will search for the medicine globally.

"I hope that the cooperation with AliHealth can effectively integrate high-quality resources from both sides to bring benefits to more domestic patients with rare diseases," said Lyu Xiaolei, deputy director of the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone Administration.

"AliHealth hopes to facilitate the process for patients seeking medical treatment and medicines with the help of the internet," said Ma Li, vice president of AliHealth.
