Hainan's rehabilitation, health tourism development forum showcases bright future

The second summit forum on the development of Hainan rehabilitation and health tourism kicks off in Boao, Hainan province on July 23.

The second forum on the development of Hainan's rehabilitation and health tourism was held in Boao, Hainan province on July 23.

The forum was jointly hosted by Hainan's Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports, the Hainan Provincial Health Commission and the Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone Administration.

Guests, such as experts in rehabilitation and health tourism, representatives of companies in the sector and representatives from tourism resorts, attended the conference and discussed pressing issues spanning the future development trends of the industry, the development space of Hainan's rehabilitation and health tourism as well as deepening communication and cooperation. 

Rehabilitation and health tourism is an emerging tourism product that integrates health maintenance, relaxation and tourism, and has become popular among consumers all over the world. 

Gao Qiang, the former minister of the National Health Commission, noted that Hainan is China's largest special economic zone, a demonstration zone for ecological civilization countrywide and China's largest island for international tourism. 

Gao put forward that Hainan should keep innovating development methods and optimize economic and industrial structures to establish the rehabilitation and health tourism industry as a breakthrough in Hainan's overall high-quality tourism industry development.

Fu Zhu, deputy director of Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone Administration, discussed Lecheng's current status, such as its preferential policies, innovative measures and latest achievements during the event. 

She said that Lecheng will keep enhancing cooperation and communication with domestic medical tourism companies to turn Lecheng into a world-leading medical tourism destination and an important place for showcasing medical consumption in China by featuring a new development paradigm of dual circulation, in which domestic and overseas markets reinforce each other with the domestic market as the mainstay.
