Peter Bootsma, former counselor for health, welfare and sports at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, signed a contract online with Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone on March 5 to become its senior international officer.
Bootsma is not only an experienced diplomat of global fame but also an expert in global health with nearly four decades of working experience in healthcare, international exchange and investment promotion.
His induction is expected to increase Lecheng's internationalization level and help it make more breakthroughs in attracting overseas companies and medical institutions, as well as enhancing its connections with embassies and consulates general of European countries and boosting global investment attraction.
The links between Bootsma and Lecheng were forged in September 2020 when he first visited the area.

An online roundtable conference seeking to boost communications and cooperation between medical companies in Lecheng and the Netherlands was held in Haikou in December 2020 thanks to Bootsma's support as a liaison.
"The on-site visit to Lecheng and the cooperation with Lecheng's management team led by Gu Gang allowed me to see the various possibilities in Lecheng's future development, which are very inspiring," said Bootsma.
"The new job in Lecheng is a chance for great fun and challenges. I hope that I can go to Hainan to start my work as soon as possible and to make my contributions to the construction of turning Lecheng into a global leading medical tourism destination," added Bootsma.
"Bootsma's induction will further increase Lecheng's global influence," said Gu Gang, director of the Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone Administration.
"Lecheng will introduce more global talents and build an internationalized business environment, increasing the positivity and satisfaction of international companies who are managing medicines and medical instruments and applying their innovative products and technologies in Lecheng," added Gu.
